I totally agree. My best-case post-FiM scenario is a movie or two, followed by a new series in the same Equestrian contiuity after a time skip. Different protagonists, perhaps, or possibly the same protagonists with a new art style.

Hey, Hasbro! Think how many toys you could sell if Pegasoi, Unicorns and Earth Ponies all had different body types!

You're dead-on with Trek, too. The movies have all been too much ACT and not enough THINK to work as Trek. I like the Abrams movies well enough, but they're kind of a pantomime version.

Confession: I liked the Highlander TV show for exactly this reason. immortality wants time for flashbacks and contemplation.
