FWIW, as a player, I am terrible at deciphering clues. I always draw the wrong conclusion early and then get stuck in confirmation bias.
So, it's a good thing I'm not a detective. ¬.¬
Oddly, however, I often do a good job of guessing out whodunit in a mystery story, if the writer "plays fair" about it. But that's probably a matter of having studied the form.
