This will probably baffle many if not most of the people who read this, but I'd just like to state for the record, that I absolutely love John Philip Sousa marches. :)

Ah, the good old days when Heavy Metal meant a particularly large tuba section! :)

Then you must get up to my lair.

I have Sousa on Parade. A complete 5, IIRC, record set of the best march composer ever. :=3

Can you here the "Monty Python's Flying Circus" theme in the background? ;=3

I also have Tchaikovsky and Chopin. :=3

Pardon? What was that? Sorry, I have this up a bit loud.

Now, Wagner... THERE was a heavy metal soul.

I happen to dig Chopin, Mozart, Holst, and the Bach family (C.P.E., J.S. and P.D.Q.) myself.

That's some slow bangin'... ;)

Rumor has it that Bach was trying to invent something akin to the sound of Heavy Metal. Can you imagine Trans-Siberian Orchestra's sound coming out of the 19th Century?! *drools*

Oh, but can you pick a favorite one? I really like The Black Horse Troop, but I think the sheer coolness factor of the arrangement of The Stars and Stripes Forever where the piccolo solo is played by the tuba instead puts it at the top of the list. I was watching a performance of it, and they actually went through the last strain three times. The first time, they had TWO piccolos play the solo, and it was like musical torture. Who uses TWO piccolos? Then the tubas got up and played. It was the only time anyone cheered outside of a jazz concert. Hee. Being a tuba player, I'm required to think Sousa is a minor god. I could talk about Sousa so much, but I think I'm starting to get scary now, so I'm going to stop babbling and take some more NyQuill.

A favorite one? Probably "Stars and Stripes Forever." But there are lots of good ones! There's another famous one that I can't remember the name of offhand, although it featured prominently in George Pal's made-for-TV "Doc Savage" movie...

Be kind to your web footed friends!
'Cause a duck might be somebody's mo-ther!
Be kind to your friends in the swamp!
Where the weather is always sort of damp!

You may think that this is the end!
Well it is, and I'll tell you something O-ther!

Remember that the duckie is your friend!
And try to treat that little duckie like your Bro-ther!

...abolutely anything must be more entertaining to play than the trombone's part in "Pomp and Circumstance: Fanfare and Processional"!

Just found out tonight that Sousa's "Congress Hall march" was written for Cape May, Nj's Congress Hall (which has been fully restored). It seems the J.P.S. used to hold concerts on the hotel's front yard and wrote the march for the hotel.

Gneech must come to SJ to see Congress Hall and here my albums. ;=3
