Thanks to the MisterArt.com VIP card:
Prismacolor Pencil Set of 120 $ 93.83
Prismacolor Art Stix Set of 48 $ 41.39
Col-Erase Colored Pencils Set of 24 $ 8.77
                                        $ 13.98 +shipping
                                        $157.97 total

Considering that the local Pla-Za was charging $135 for the Prismacolor pencils alone, I'd say that's a pretty good deal!

I have a set of Derwent pencils, but they're too hard; I'm hoping the Prismacolors will be easier to use, particularly in sketchbooks. Markers make nice, vivid colors on bristol, and blend beautifully, but I discovered to my dismay at FC that MARKERS + SKETCHBOOKS = BLEED ALL OVER THE PAGE! *cry*

Clean, polished original artwork is still a long way away for me, alas, but having the right tools sure makes a big difference!

Excuse me while I turn green with envy....I need to restock my supplies and haven't managed to do so yet because they're so expensive. These days that amount of cash represents a car payment :P

Heh, don't envy me, it's not like I have a ton of cash myself. I've just gotten real good at shuffling what funds I have around to priorities!

See, this is why I don't have nice art supplies. I don't have enough money to cover the cost of a tablet. There's no way I can afford pencils like that.

Dude, get thee onto furbid and start selling art. You're good enough to get some real money over time! :)

I dunno. I haven't stared at it for hours on end yet (still need a frame), but I think the bristol board you sent me is pretty clean and polished. :)

Oh yeah. Prismacolor pencils are smoooooooth. Like buddah. ^.^

Prismas are the best pencils. I love mine. Be prepared to replace your white and pale colors very quickly and often (if you shade and layer like me). But stay away from the "verithin" Prisma pencils. The pigment in those puppies is hard as granite.

If the Prismacolor pencils turn out to be too soft/waxy, Dick Blick offers a nice set that's in between. They're called Bruynzeel and they're out of Holland. One set comes in a very nice suede-like case that holds each pencil individually, so they don't roll around and cause breakage.

I tend to have a bit of a heavy hand and found these to be -perfect-, because they blend together very well. I don't end up muching them up.

Let me know if you'd like to see an example.

Oh, had the LJ for a little while now. Mine's mostly bitter right now, I'm afraid. The talk of art supplies is a nice break in the action/drama!

Hope you don't mind, I added you to my Friends List (Or else I'll forget to look here! Blonde!).
