WTF is up with the Washington/Baltimore radio market? There's enough listeners for 500 irritating evangelical stations, 300 rap stations, 200 latino stations, 100 "classic rock" or "mix" stations, 50 oldies stations, 25 public stations, 15 yackety-schmackety stations, and even 1 private classical station.

But NOT. ONE. '80s. STATION.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. >:E

On another note, I've been pushing myself a little too hard the past few weeks; this morning, my body said, "No. Back to sleep for you, or else." I think I have come to the conclusion that Kung Fu 2x/week isn't going to work after all. Since I missed class last week due to harried schedule, I have to go twice this week, and it's screwing up my whole week. So I'll stick with KF 1x/week and Bowflex 2x/week, with at least one long walk w/ [livejournal.com profile] lythandra on the weekend. As long as I am careful with my diet, that should help me keep losing the fat, even if I don't seem to be losing any weight.

So anyway, I managed to get in to work at lunchtime, so there goes some more vacation time -- which is almost at zero after FC to begin with! Sigh. But at least now I'll have enough energy to function in class tonight.

Come to Houston! You can have all the 80s stations you want, so long as you take them back with you!

You forgot country stations. And there's no techno or indie stations, either. It's all thanks to the near-monopoly of Infinity & Clear Channel. Providing you with what they want you to hear since deregulation.

Is WMZQ 98.7 FM still there in Washington?

Wait long enough and the 80s will become classic rock. Some classic rock stations in my area have already started playing 80s music.

...And in Washington, Gneech, the classic rock station in D.C., 94.7 FM (The Arrow) plays rock music up to 1989. I think at around 7:30pm a whole block of songs are devoted to the ‘80s, but it’s been a while since I listened to the station, so that block may not be there anymore. Check anyway.

There are a few stations that do that here too. WPLJ, which is otherwise a contemporary station, has an 80s block on the weekends. And I think there's also a Philly-based radio station doing the same thing.

So yeah, that's another way to get 80s music.

There are plenty of '80s blocks, but I want a station I can just put it on and leave it on!

Well, the screech of a fax modem and 80's music DO bear more than a passing resemblance ;-)

Hey Gneech--

This is slightly off topic, but right now on 88.5 there is a re-broadcast/memorial replay of an interview with Spaulding Gray, in case you are interested.

Merf ... I'm sure it's over now, alas. I'll check their website for it tonight. Thanks!

What I find wierd is, now that the 1980s
have been over for 15 years, they're not Oldies yet.

And now for a completely *weird* recommendation:
See if they have a Country station around there.

When I first moved to Texas, I was completley surprised
by the fact that contemporary (1990s & 2000s) Country
is very similar to 1980s pop, without the synths and
synth drums. Think "Stray Cats" or "Romantics" or "Belinda
Carlisle".

Yeah, I know. Nobody believes me when I say that,
but it's true.

The scary thing is how appealing that sounds to *me*, since the synth is what I hate about 80's.

There's this thingy on the internet... not sure if you've heard of it before. It's called ShoutCast and it lets you listen to damn near anything you want to.....

*chuckles*

If you had an all-80's station, it wouldn't be the good '80s. (I know you and I have the same idea of what good music is.) It would be all Whitney Houston and New Kids On The Block, the same kind of thing the industry is still pushing to this day. They don't remember the quality stuff that made the era unique.
