Oh well, my first decision was the correct one. Why couldn't this have been Icewind Dale II instead?

I'm less than thrilled with NeverWinter Nights. I imagine I'll play it through eventually, but at the moment it's not worth the effort.

I know it's differant than the black isle titles, but you can use mouse clicks on ground or keyboard to move the character around. So far I'm liking it....tho the multiplayer connecting parts are still needing work. The patches it to version 1.8 last night by the way. My dwarf is Level 2 now and in town.

Mostly performance issues with my computer; it runs all sorts of things perfectly well, but NWN tasks it to the limit. I can play DVDs and full motion video AVIs full screen, but. can't. watch. the. NWN. cutscenes.

The gameplay isn't exactly stellar either, but it's good enough to do the job. The "radial buttons" are kinda counter-intuitive for me; I'd prefer a nice, compact text menu or buttons that stay fixed on the bottom to chasing icons all over the screen. I don't really care for henchmen, either; in the single player mode, at least, I want control over my party like in the previous games, instead of the fantasy equivalent of wingmen.

D&D doesn't really work as a single-character experience; every party pretty much needs at least one specialist fighter, one specialist mage, one specialist rogue, and one specialist cleric, so to do the campaign with a single character, you need to either multiclass like crazy, or hire henchmen. And depending on the plot involved, some henchmen are much better than others.

I admit I'm kinda biased; I wanted IWD2 and just got NWN to hold me over. But I was hoping for better from NWN nonetheless. It's not awful, it's just not all that great, either. I'm hoping that maybe the multiplayer part improves things, but we'll see.

(It's not like IWD2 would be perfect either; it's still realtime and not turns, mega-yuck, but since Pool of Radiance was such a fiasco, I've given up all hope of seeing a proper turn-based D&D computer game in my lifetime. But that's not really a strike against NWN so much as against the whole Baldur's Gate and descendants family.)

Anyway, this is all just me. If you like NWN, then by all means, have fun with it!

Thats probably because NWN's uses 32bit colors, that taxes most systems.

I think you can set all the controls to a taskbar type menu system, instead of the radical icons.

Yea I have to agree on the single player part about henchmen, but NWN's is built around the multiplayer campaign more, since then you can have a completely varied party with your friends, etc.

I'm going to try to have fun with it, since the module building is what I'm wanting more than anything. Gonna try to do the Napping Cats Dream as some connected modules. Thats gonna need some model editiing tho for creatures.

You might like Jedi Knight II, if you're a SW fan. I found it incredible.

But my current favorite still has to be Unreal Tournament. My roomie has it, and there were times when he had to pry me off of his keyboard so he could do his homework. *Sheepish grin*

Jedi Knight II is pretty good. :) Not as interesting, overall, as JK1 was, but still fun. :) -TG
