Saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with [livejournal.com profile] lythandra today. Liked it better than Prisoner of Azkaban but not quite as much as Chamber of Secrets. Was glad I read the book first 'cause plot was so crammed in, like a journal post with no subject in any sentence.

Thinking about doing a "U.S.A. National Quidditch Team" costume for Dragon*Con.

Gaming tonight. Will be bringing Christmas prezzies for [livejournal.com profile] camstone and [livejournal.com profile] pholph since we won't see them again 'til January probably.

Really need a nap before then; not going to have a chance to get one, tho. Need to sign and mail a bazillion Christmas cards. So leaving subjects out of sentences to save time.

Later, everybody!

Oh bah! Now you're gonna make me feel bad. I've nothing for you and Lythandra yet.

Bah. Time for me to start perpetually taking ten in hiding.

Well a moratorium has been asked for on that score, apparently, so we'll leave that off.

Just gaming it is, then!

I'm sitting here going "Shit, what do I have I could give them in return." then my mind wandered over to a bottle of wine sitting on my cabinet.... that's been sitting on my cabinet since 2001... Its survived two moves, and who knows what... for All I know, its evil grape death.

Then I realize. "Ah fudge, I don't want to kill them off... I'll just recpriocate on payday. I have perfect things picked out."

Of late I've been wondering about Quidditch outside of Europe... I wonder if it's treated like Soccer is here in the USA. Ya we have a Quidditch team, but no one really pays attention to it unless its in the World Cup.

Following that train of thought there could also be Ausie Rules Quidditch...

Would Aussie Rules Q be called "Quiddie"?

Last week I had weird thoughts about NFL establishing leagues in Asia, South America and Africa. They passed.

Gneech? Remember years ago when Levi's designed the US Olympic Team's uniforms and gave the people a choice of three different styles? Must have been 1976 or 1980 when this happened.

Actually, it was 1984, when the summer games were held in Los Angeles...

Actually, the divine Mrs. Rowling talked about the state of Quidditch in the US in a small book called 'Quidditch through the ages' that she wrote for the UK version of Comedy Relief. It enjoys the same status as soccer does in the US, with the main game being a variant called 'Quodpot'

A Quodpot team has ten players, And there is only one ball, appropriately named the 'Quod.' While the ball does not move by itself it does explode (with a bright flash and a lot of noise, but not lethally) at random intervals. When it does the player holding the quod is 'out,' and the game is over when all the players on one side have been eliminated in this manner. The only way to keep the Quod from exploding is to put it into a water-filled pot on the opponent's side of the field, which also scores you a point.

Why YES, 'fictional sports' IS listed on my LJ 'interests' list!
