I would agree...although surely if you took them out, then the original trilogy wouldn't have existed, having lost the main antagonist, the hero, his twin sister, one of the comic-relief droids...
For that matter, so were the clone troopers. Makes you wonder what happened between Eps. III and IV to turn them into the Keystone Copper stormtroopers.
Budget cuts. After all, they have to pay for those Super Star Destroyers somehow. Why not cut back on the budget for clone troopers when you can get stupid weedy Fringers instead. Here... I have proof!
Most likely though this is just the fault in thinking air (space) superiority is more necessary than a properly funded ground force. Or there were just big problems with producing lots of AT-ATs. Those things kick ass! I know my miniature scale model of one is still F'n huge on a battle grid. ;)
That only happens if your opponent has a lightsaber, and everyone knows Jedi are dead. ^_^; Then again, from all the stuff I've read, there were a LOT of Jedi that did escape the Purges. Like Vos, who somehow managed to survive getting blown up by one of the turrets on those Clone Trooper Transports with the missiles and everything. I heard he got away anyways, even though in the Episode 3 comic book by Dark Horse, it looks like he bites the big one.
There was a distinct lack of cute, fluffy Jedi. I know there was a Jedi Wookie, but while fluffy, a Wookie is NOT cute when it can tear your arms out of your socket. O_O
Oh right! I forgot about him. Yeah! I still want to strangle Lucas for taking the Shistavarian out of A New Hope. I remember leaving the movie when it was rereleased and my friends were all jazzed and they asked me what I thought and I was like "I'm sooooo pissed off!" Then I told them they took out Lak Sivrak (thats his name) and they were like "Oh. Good point."
But yeah, this is why Tatarsky is cool, because he realized the Shistivarian was awesome. ^_^
IIRC, the Shistavanian was there as part of a marketing gimmick -- Cartoon Network ran a contest where you could make up a Jedi character, and the winner's character would appear in the show ... and the Shistavanian was the winner.
Not to say that he didn't win because he was awesome. ;)
I know that. They had two other jedi choices as well, the 4 eyed white fluffy thing you see in the Cantina scene, and one of those Ithorians. Both were sort of lame compared to the Shistivarian, although they did get to show back up at the middle-end of Season 2 to become Grevious cutlets, trying to protect Palpatine, so maybe they did get the last laugh.
And considering the Shistavanian won by like... 60-70% compared to the other 30-40% being for the other two... I'd say the fans liked him more too.
Yeah, but I felt that they had to be arses in the movies to show that not just the Republic was suffering from corruption, the Jedi was suffering from, as my mom would put it, "believing their own press" just a little too much.
I'm just pissed off at how quick Grevious lost two of his four arms. Honestly, if you're gunna make him all cool like that, let him use them for a good long time. Like in Clone Wars where Grevious uses all sorts of flips and stuff as well as using his feet. George could really use some help updating what is freakin' cool when it comes to over the top fighting.
Yeah. He should have just stayed at long range like a good jet pack flying dunce and shot the crap out of the Jedi from the air. Sort of like his fight with Obi Wan on Kamino. Sure Obi Wan got him on the ground but at least Jango did what he was supposed to do to begin with. Having Slave 1 didn't hurt either as backup. ;)
If Jango had been smart, he'd have used one of those Sonic blasters the Geonocians were using. Mace wouldn't have blocked those. ^_^
Yeah, its pretty sad that the one Jedi with like an almost 300 degree vision didn't notice Jango about to blast the crud out of him when he tried to attack Dooku. He should have used the flame thrower. That at least got Mace to back off the first time he used it. But still, he should have just stuck to sniping from long range. Then again, the Fetts always did seem to do stupid things at the worst times.
If Jango had been smart, he'd never have gone within twenty pasrecs of Geonosis without specific orders, and if Darth Saruman had had a clue, he'd have made sure to keep his pet merc as far away from himself as he could manage if he got himself ID'd (which he did, Mandalorian armor being so distinctive and all), and not lead the Entire population of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant right to his doorstep.
Maybe his specific orders were "camp out on Geonosis and let the Jedi find you there." Darth Sidious did love his wheels-within-wheels plotting, after all.
"Get your head lopped off" was probably not in his orders, but I doubt it really bothered the Lords Darth much either way.
He wasn't meant to, and he realized after it was way too late that he'd been duped. It was his choices that caused him to lose her. Here he was terrified she would die, and he caused it. Once she realized what he had turned into, she no longer wanted to live. So sad that it was his actions that caused what he most feared, if he had just been stronger, it wouldn't have happened. He also should have talked to Obi Wan...his refusal to talk about his wife and fears was where the trouble all started, and gave the Emperor his weapon to use against him. Ah to be young and stupid, you'd think he would trust Obi over that slime, but no.
Overall I felt that last Star Wars film was incredibly sad...and seeing Anakin turn into such a cold blooded killer was hard to take, I had always known that he had done horrible things when he became Darth Vader, but somehow the reality was more horrid than the concept had been. Killing all those young jedi was just as devastating for me to see as it was for Padame'. Obi Wan screwed up though, he should have killed Anakin when he had the chance.
Anyway, sometimes I wish I had stuck to the old Star Wars films and never watched these, seeing all the tradegies unfold just took away the enjoyment.
Actually, I meant that Genndy Tartakovsky couldn't save Padmé from being dull as dishwater. She has all of two good moments in the entire prequel cycle, including Clone Wars, and is furniture the rest of the time. Bleagh.
Years ago when VCRs were pretty new and Beta was still an option, the family went to buy one, planning to get home in time to set it up and tape The Wizard of Oz. There was a freebie sample tape in the VCR, but it was only about 20 minutes worth of tape. The sales clerk mentioned that, suggesting we buy some tapes. Her reaction was amusing when Pa quipped, "Eh, it'll fit, we'll skip recording all those darn songs." For the record, we did get the longer tapes and did get everything set up in time.
But I thought of that when I saw 'Episode 3' and wondered how long the movie would be if all the battle/fight scenes (which I found even more dull than the non-battle/fight scenes) were cut out. I don't know, but I expect it would compress rather considerably.
I heard rumors that Lucas originally wanted 3 trilogies. Wars, Empire & Jedi were middle part. While Phantom, Attack & Revenge were first part. So I wonder, will Lucas actually make this third set picking up where Jedi left off?
No, but it will most likely carry on through books, and there was talk at one point about a live-action television series. There are also rumors that Genndy will do the third installment much like Clone Wars, but I beat the hell out of the guy who told that to me, because he believed it.
"It's amazing how much better the Star Wars prequels would be, if you could just take out Anakin and Padmé." Or simply replace Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman with better actors.
What I don't understand is how he went from creating the two greatest trilogies of all time (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) to making that dredge. Has the fame caused hom to completely lose his mind?
Lucas and Speilberg worked 50-50 on Indiana Jones. I think Lucas had the original concept thoughbut Speilberg did all the directing and Lucas handled special effects and what not.
George should've stuck to directing and general scheming and let someone else write the bloody scripts.
If you want to enjoyRevenge of the Sith, read the book by Mathtew Stover. It was actually more enjoyable, save for the lack of flashy visual effects, than the movie, and Stover's description of Annie's waking up in the Black Armor for the first time is just creepy.
Oh, I couldn't agree more. That's why one of the things I asked for for my birthday was an icon of Obi-Wan with the caption, Obi-Wan, King of the Jedi. n_n
