I don't watch South Park, generally, but I must admit I'm curious as to what happened on the "Chef is back" episode, since I keep hearing people refer to how brilliant it was.

With all the reports of Isaac Hayes having had a stroke and statements coming from his "handler," my interest is piqued.

So SP watchers, wha happan? By all means, gimme spoilers.

PS: Don't read responses to this post if you don't want spoilers, assuming somebody posts some!

EDIT: Well, there's my answer. How gruesome!

It's South Park. You have to expect it will be gruesome or obscene. :p

The moral of the story is, never piss off the creators of a comic or show.

They took previous voice bits from other episodes and twisted them out of context to turn Chef into a pedophile. Most of the gags revolved around that and then, in the end, they killed him only to have the group he was involved with revive him as a Darth Chef pedophile.

Sadly, it was one of the cleverest episodes I'd seen come from them in a long time and more in the tradition of the earlier episodes in the series.

O_O

Wow!!!

I'd heard Hayes left over a Scientology spoof, but I'm kinda out of the loop. I'm not surprised to hear that's what they did to him and it sounds like that was a great episode. I miss cable (...and I miss broadband even more). GRRRR @ living in the middle of nowhere.

Actually, he said he left because of 'The Religious Intolernce' the show had. Which begs the question, how can Issac say that after being on South Park for NINE years? Lets see, in the first 8, they made fun of every religion under the sun. Catholics, Baptists, Jews, Islamists, Mormons (can't forget them), and uh, I'm sure there's a few others I could mention. And lets not forget the movie! But yes, once they made fun of Scientology, oh man, he was out. Honestly, if he had just left and said he was 'working on other projects', it would have been ok. But no, he had to pop off about 'Religious Intolerence'.

Either way, the episode was hilarious. I totally expected Chef to die but not the whole Vader scene. ;) Plus, it was funny to hear them paste together audio clips of Chef to make whole pieces of script for him to say, although they didn't try to hide what they were doing when they did it.

Yea, I heard the phrase "Religious Intolerence" tossed around and my 1st thought was "did he forget that the original South Park short have Jesus and Santa fighting over christmas?".

I wouldn't have tried to hide the voice editing either. That's one of the greatest aspects of the joke.

Hell, he didn't seem to have a problem when they did the whole "Bringing Christmas to Iraq" episode where Jesus had his chest blown through with a shotgun. I mean, really, thats just f'd up. But yeah they've made fun of a LOT of people and religions in that show. And... why am I suddenly reminded of the Deathcamp Of Tolerence episode now? Hehe. Lemmiwinks!

Oh, and yeah, that was a great part of the joke, the bad editting. Heh. All in all, its one of the best episodes they've had in a while. Its MUCH better of a start than Season 9's first episode or two.

"He got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show."

Appearantly seeing people hit in the nuts is funny as long as it isn't you taking the hit... who knew?

Seriously, I don't see how anyone with brain could beleive that the "time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins" happens at exactly the time the South Park gets around to making light of HIS particular beliefs.

*sigh* Does he honestly think we as the public are THAT stupid? I'm just insulted by that.

In balance, though, they did eulogize chef rather nicely, talking of the Chef that they all knew who cared about them, and not to be mad at chef, but at the "fruity little club" that ruined him.

One of the most comical sound bytes, was when he was in the doctors waiting room. an he stated he wanted to "make love up your butt!"
the exact sound bytes they chose for that part, flow'd together an made me cackle. He sounded so happy about it! Xd

I thought it was really quite moving. Chef joins the 'super adventure club' and comes back brainwashed as a pedophile. The boys take chef to a psychiatrist to help him. and it works! But, the super adventure club kidnaps him back. And when they boys go to rescue him, the super adventure club is an allagory (i'm not the english buff but you'll know what i mean) for scientology. the rescue chef but he says he has to go back. he falls off a cliff and dies. At the funeral, Kyle talks about how sad they are that chef made some bad mistakes and they'll always remember him for what he did for them and not for his mistake. You could tell that Trey and Matt were very sad about losing chef and they wish he would come to his senses. It was really quite sad
