From [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning: Donnie Yen to Star in Seven Samurai Remake
Y'know, remaking any Kurasawa movie is sorta like attempting to paint "Mona Lisa 2.0" -- what's the point?* Having said that, it's about bloody time Donnie Yen got a movie! So I'm ambivalent about this one.

*I don't count Magnificent Seven, Fistful of Dollars and all the rest of those "remakes" exactly. Adaptations, I'm cool with. But really ... to paraphrase Sam Jackson, Seven Samurai had Akira *#&$@ Kurasawa and Toshira #&$%^ Mifune. You just cannot top this, so why try?

Hey, the Samurai 7 anime is pretty cool, just because everything goes better with giant mecha robots. ^_^ But yeah, thats anime, not a live-action film.

I love Kurosawa...but remember he remade The Scottish Play (Throne of Blood) and King Lear (Ran).

Wake me when they remake Dodes'kaden.

Well, a) those are plays, not movies ;) and b) he adapted them considerably. Ran in particular is vastly improved over King Lear IMO.

The only one of those Onion clippings that's new is the EPA warnings about romance. And that one's obvious by now (February was promoted to "Valentine's Month" in several locations). :)

Don't forget the rather unlikely adaptation of Seven Samurai in A Bug's Life.
