One thing about trying to do miniatures right, it teaches you to take the long view of a project. If you include placing the order, I "started" this batch of horses I'm working on about three weeks ago.

As of tonight, I've cleaned up the casting flash, glued them to bases, built up putty around the bases to blend the join, and "accessorized" the bases a bit to help individualize them.

Tomorrow (hopefully), I'm going to add some rock texture to some of them (to create a "gravel road") and finish assembling the fence pieces I put on two of them; when the glue dries, they all get their primer coat.

Then I can start painting! Whee!

I've come a long way from my Crypt of the Sorcerer days (this isn't my copy, but this was the first gaming product I ever bought myself -- and I painted the figs about that well) ... but I've still got a long way to go...

PS: Here's the second gaming product I bought myself. I'm noticing a pattern here. ;)

What do you think of my friend's stuff? He's apparantly one of the top 20% because of his skills at doing non-metallic metallics, but I dont know much about mini painting to be able to claim!

I think the link doesn't work. ;)

I know about the non-metal metallic techniques; can't do 'em myself but I've seen them in action. They're nice, I won't deny it, and are the current "big thing" in miniatures gaming ... although I don't think they're quite the Ultimate Technique some folks seem to think they are. :)

Well as for books, I was weak this weekend at ConCarolinas (http://www.concarolinas.org/) this weekend. Among the other gaming items I bought, I found this book (http://www.3amgames.com/old/3am10500.html) from 3am games, that if you can find might find useful for weapons ideas when you're gming, both for the players and villians.

I've also found that they now have a Dummies guide for everything, I picked up Dungeons and Dragons for Dummies to try and explain to my non-gaming family what I do. And Dungeon Mastering for Dummies for myself, since I've got some ideas, but I just want to be ready when I do pull off my first game.
