For your present, here's today's Forgotten English!

gilravage
To hold a merry meeting, with noise and riot, but without doing injury to anyone. It seems generally, if not always, to include the idea of a wasteful use of food, and of intemperate use of strong drink. According to the first orthography, the term may have formed from gild, a society, a fraternity, and the verb to ravage, or from French ravager, the riotous meeting of a gild or fraternity. Could we suppose that the proper pronunciation were guleravage, it might be derived from French gueule, the mouth, the throat, also the stomach, conjoined with the verb already mentioned; to waste ... to gormandize.
--John Jamieson's Etymological Scottish Dictionary, 1808

Add Strong Drink to the Autumn Diet
In Via Recta: The Right Way of Living (1650), Thomas Venner recommended the following dietary changes: "In October and November, and likewise after the middle of September, according as you shall find the season to alter, you may begin to arme your body with stronger drinks against the cold of the ensuing winter, and to feed more liberally, and on stronger meats."

Full of wholesome advice, that Via Recta. I think I'll arme my body with some tea later this morning.

Speaking of tea, would you believe that I purchased a box of "Madagascar Vanilla Red" based soley on your icon*? Good tea, I think.

* And that it was caffeine-free.

That reminds me, I need to find an oriental food store around here where I can get black tea. Seems like they're the only place to find it where it's not cut with orange pekoe or some other kind of tea. I don't know if black tea is expensive or what,(doesn't seem like it for the prices I'm paying at oriental food stores,) but I don't know of any brand of tea that you can find at like Publix or Wal-Mart that is just straight black tea.

Hell, it all sounds good to me! I'll start getting myself armed up by having a beer and a philly cheesesteak sandwich this weekend. . . Better make it a big one, I've got a little catch up to play.

Oh yeah, good stuff. Though, I actually had better ones in Chicago, than when I lived in Philly.

*hoisted an oversized mug of cream earl grey!*

To stronger meats! I made orange honey bbq ribs last night! We're warding off autumn and rain today, though, with Jimmy Buffet and a sun lamp! I have the sudden urge to spread sand all over the floor and get a little wading pool for our feet.
