[livejournal.com profile] lythandra and I just finished watching, courtesy of Netflix, David Suchet as Poirot in "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" (referred to among Christie fans as "the one with the dentist"). It was good of course, as all of the Suchet Poirot episodes are, but what was of particular note about it is that we were both quite startled to see a young up-and-comer by the name of Christopher Eccleston come brooding onto the screen as a Blackshirt.

Bizarre little coincidence. But fun. :)

I never noticed him in that before! Of course, I didn't know who he was when I saw it last :P Coincidentally, in a more recent Poirot, a not-so-paper-shaped Zoe Wannamaker shows up.

On another tangent, is it just me or do the more recent adaptations leave a little to be desired? They haven't really been the same since A&E started sharing the load.

I've only seen one of the A&E ones ("Mystery on the Blue Train" I think it was), and it seemed all right, if a little bit "tired" perhaps.

Hmm, must just be me. They don't seem to be conveying the Roaring Twenties and Dirty Thirties atmosphere as well as they used to.

Parenthetically, according to one website, there's a studio flat available in the building that poses as Whitehaven Mansions in the series. L155,000--not bad for downtown London!

I love how cute dogs are, even if they're only cute because they're so dumb! ^.^

Oooooooooh, that's some hot library shtuff.... I mean, I don't like how they added those weird red and green plastic cover sections.... I'm just not into that, yanno? Not that there's anything wrong with people who are! It's just not my thing. Got any more of those nice, old looking classically bound ones? ;-)

Seriously though, those libraries are awesome! ^.^ I love books.

Holy crap!
When I was a kid, I remember watching that episode. That's the one with the creepy dentist and that eerie children's rhyme. Scared the hell out of me.

If you've ever seen the Nicholas Cage re-make of "Gone in sixty seconds", you'll have seen Ecclestone there too - He was the slightly unhinged (no pun intended) English Gangster Carpenter who put Cage up to the job in the film.

You can still catch the older Poirot episodes on the Biography Channel, as well as Jeremy Brett's version of Sherlock Holmes, which I enjoy.

I have to say that I still have a soft spot for Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple. You know... SHE would have made an interesting Doctor...
