Time. They use plenty of time...

And I bet they use "hide" on a number of their mistakes too.

Remind me to show you pictures of some of my 15mm stuff.
And my 1:160 scale Robinson Family and Robot from Lost in Space.

Lost In Space

I will not tie up The Gneech's page with my pictures. What you see here is a bit larger than full size. The close ups in the folder show all the flaws. The Jupiter 2 is not something I made, but I did make the landing leg stand for the ship. Yes Penny is holding Gleep, and yes Gleep has antennae.

The 15mm figures, three 75mm figures and a 25mm Dragon can be found at
http://dirtdeninn.com/smrgol/Miniatures

I just took them down and photographed them, didn't dust them first (and it shows!) I also realize that I never finished detailing the 15mm figures.

I did the two wizards because I wanted to do the Owl and the Lizard. The Aquarian was a figure based on a race in a spaceship miniatures game.

The pictures were taken with a Canon 300D Rebel Digital SLR with the standard 50mm lens and available light.

Yep, but tricky. As I said, these were casual hand held shots because Frost wanted to see them.

I think that's a slightly larger than usual scale mini. And a lot of paint mixing and stuff, sort of like how you might paint a picture, but... on tiny detail.

O.o Is that a STANDARD SIZE miniature?!??
Yeesh.
That's it, I've gotta get your address to send you those three miniatures I have on my desk that need a good home. You can take good care of them, I hope!

And gotta get postage. >.>;

They use magnifying glasses that make the tiniest little things visible and brushes with no more than three hairs at the tip, and a LOT of patience. I bet they don't drink caffine or eat a lot of sugar, either.

I've seen documentaries on the people who make the dyes to make dollar bills. The dyes are useless if the lines are less than a hair's width and more than a hair and a half-- and they have to be variable depths depending on the darkness and thickness of the line. It can take months to carve a single dye. Very impressive work!

And no, knowing how dollars are made doesn't take the magic away. It adds to it.

Have the best

If you like, I can put you in touch with my friend, Chris, who is one of the top 20% of miniature painters in the world. He paints normal sized miniatures even BETTER than the one you linked to.

He does non-metallic metal effects, and even as far as the white glint in the pupil of the eyes, all amazingly blended etc.

He's really something else!

Methinks it involves more patience than even I've been graced with.
