Have you ever watched any of Dirty Pair? And if so, what did you think?

May I reccomend "The Melancholoy of Haruhi Suzumiya?"

Feel free! I've never heard of it. Could I press you for details?

It's like 12 or 13 episodes. Haruhi is a normal schoolgirl who is a force to be reckoned with. She's extremely rational, but "wants to believe" in the Fox Mulder sense. She's mentioned in that Tropes article, as a matter of fact.

It's possible that she is, in fact, God. But if she is she is unaware of the fact. Her circle of friends are really a time traveller (trying to figure out what the hell is going on), an AI (likewise), an Esper, and a normal guy who apparently is her love interest. She's unaware of any of this.

As an added bonus, the episodes are intentionally out of order. It's good stuff.

Just remember that if you buy the DVDs, the episodes ARE in chronological order, which takes quite a bit of the run out of the series. It's much better watched in the original broadcast order.

How will I know which is which?

From the Wikipedia article...

"The original "next episode" previews broadcast after the closing credits featured Haruhi announcing the episode number according to its chronological place in the storyline. Kyon then interjects, 'correcting' her by announcing the episode number in order of broadcast. These have become known as the "Haruhi order" and "Kyon order" respectively. This was done because the climax of the story, in chronological order, occurs barely halfway into the series, and thus causes the story to lose some dramatic effect."

The original Dirty Pair, and the OVA's that go with it are pretty good, the animation quality is patchy but the stories and humour entertained me anyway. The Dirty Pair Flash remake has better quality animation but the stories aren't quite as good, but still ok.

They're good enough for me to still occasionally dust off and watch my copies anyway.

Yeah, I agree with this statement. The Dirty Pair Flash is probably easier to get your paws on though, than the original stuff, but if you can get it, its not a bad thing.

Speaking of anime, I really need to find something new to collect while I wait for the next Bleach DVD.

I totally agree with this. I loved the original because of the story and humor, but I also loved Flash just as much but because of the animation.

My college roommate loved it. He was a lot more into the boobiefest (shocker) and big-mechs-'n'-guns anime than I was (I'm more the comedy/romance sort), if that makes a difference. I think he was the Robotech type fan.

So I only saw the original series once a long time ago, and I can say it was entertaining enough, just not my thang.

Then this might not be for you. Not for that purpose anyway. You'll get distracted by the plots @:) Particularly Project Eden. You'll miss excellent one-liners if you're too far into your work. Best to get them and plan to sit with some popcorn and maybe a doodle pad for brainless sketching.

Wasn't that the original "where do they store those guns" anime?

What I remember is very high speed violence.
Any building you might see the inside of, will be distroyed by the end of the episode.
Cars, boats, airplanes, clothes/costumes, macguffins, allies; none stand a good chance of survival.

I have read some of the books (Biohazard and Dangerous Acquaintances) and I thought they were bloody great! And that is coming from someone who, on the whole, loathes anime/manga!

Have you ever seen "Dokkider?" It's a great mix of the "power suit" and "apartment house" genres.

In the anime, the hero ends up sharing an apartment with the bad guys, all of whom are in their secret identities. =};-3

I have some of the original Dirty Pair episodes on tape if you want them. A while ago, I use to be a big fan of the original series, and of the American Manga series. The Flash series is okay.
