Actually, this one is more ruminations on the subject matter, rather than about the art itself, although the art is certainly well-executed. :)

'Vixen 'kini' by dingbat
'Vixen 'kini' by dingbat

It's a bikini babe in a cheesecake pose. Go fig.

Instead of going "Huhuhuh, bikini..." when I encounter an image like this one, I always find myself wondering what the woman is thinking at the moment captured. I realize that represents Guy Failure on my part and might possibly be considered insulting to the artist, but what can I say? I'm an eccentric. I also realize the irony of it, considering I do a comic about a supermodel and her Pretty People pals ... but in some ways, I think it may be the reason I can do a comic like that and have it work as a story.

The reality of life is that I have a decent number of women friends, but few of them have the build (and fewer the inclination) to pull cheesecake poses in bikinis. It occurs to me that the sort of gal this image depicts is about as alien to me as a small blue furry creature from the Crab Nebula might be. Is she thinking about the viewer? Is she thinking about her own feelings? Does she take the situation seriously or is it all a put-on that she'll giggle about later?

Granted, this particular gal is a complete fiction anyway. But there are real gals like this out there -- the Dragon*Con Booth Bunny comes to mind. I wonder what they're like, when they're not being bikini babes?

Me to. Like "Collegiate Hepcats" said, "This is why we have comics."

She's probably focusing on her work, in all seriousness. When she's not vamping for the camera, she's likely to be just like anyone else. She might be an insufferable you-know-what who has always gotten her way by her looks, or she may be easy to get along with and just does her thing, much like Tiffany does.

One thing that's GOT to be on her mind... "You're only pretty for about 15 minutes." I know it would be on mine.

I have a co-worker w/ supermodel looks, and she's had them as long as I've worked here (going on six years now) ... so it's not -quite- as fragile as all that. She's a database programmer, and a darn good one. :)

Never once seen her in a bikini, tho.

We do... but I'm getting too old to lust after anyone who looks like *that*. You can only date high school girls and coeds for a very small window of time. *sigh*

Foxes DO have neeeeeeeeeds. :)

I suppose some people really enjoy the attention.

What springs most to mind is an NPR interview i heard a while back, and for the life of me, i can't remember who it was with, so we'll call her Generic Cute Primetime Gal.

GCPG had become fairly popular on $show, and the cast had been asked to pose for some cheesecake type pictures, a'la the vixen up above. Telling the story about it later, all she was thinking about at the time was how silly she felt, being told to bend over further, part her lips a bit, make eyes at the camera, that her leg was starting to cramp up, that it's really rather chilly in here, etc.

Heehee. :) That's another aspect that I was think about, the skill to make an inherently unnatural position seem like the kind of thing every woman just does as a matter of course.

I can hear it now:

"Okay, we need you to be spontaneously sexy on cue."

"Say what?"

I have a couple of friends who are professional models. One of whom is a fetish model.

Usually what's going on in their heads is:

"He's taking an awfully long time fiddling with the light meter."

"It's cold in here."

"60 dollars an hour. 2 hours to go. Car payment is made. I have to schedule three more shoots for next week."

"Pizza for dinner, sounds good. I'll call on the way home."

etc.

That's the kind of thing I'd expect from a pro, actually. :) It's amazing how anything can become just a chore that needs to be gotten through.

I had a couple of friends who used to model. I think I'd interpret that facial expression as "so is my neck stretched out long enough so that I don't look like I have a double chin?" I also think (as a rather curvy female) that she probably has a crick in her mid-lower back from holding that pose. Right about where that beautiful curve is, it aches. Chances are, the right knee is cramping a bit as well.

As an artist, I'm sure your brain is trying to figure out where, exactly, the weight is distributed through this pose.

Given the position of the tail, I'd assume that she was caught in the act of shifting her weight from (the viewer's) left to right, putting the center of weight approximately 3/4 of the way across, 1/4 of the way up from the bottom of the frame. :)

Well, you know MY thoughts on cheesecake ^ ^;;

Try being in Los Angeles...we've actually had a few lookers as admin that could easily model for this. I remember hearing rumors one of them had wanted to be an actress (she's doing the mom thang now, though).
So I dunno, I can picture this gal thinking "Okay, he's got a 2:00 conference call he'll probably forget, and I need to schedule his flight to Boston next week..."

With the tail as counterbalance, that pose is easy. Ask any fursuiter.

Hey Gneech! I just wanted to put in my thoughts.. who knows what she's thinking? But since I came up with the pose for her, I have to share my reasoning for it.. I was sitting at my chair and had my hands kind of behind my neck, pulling a bit of my hair forward and put it in front of my shoulders instead of behind... I was just kind of liking how soft my hair felt at the moment. I thought "I wonder how I look with my arms in this position and my hair like this?" I didn't bother to look in a mirror, but I drew this vixen character doing just that... with the intention of trying to sell it eventually, I put her in a skimpy outfit (that's me selling out, ha!). So BASICALLY.. I think she's just feeling very comfortable with herself, she's satisfied with the way she is, and she likes her hair. XD Haha.

And yes, these kinds of women are completely alien to me too. In fact, I usually have an aversion to very pretty women (and men for that matter)... most of the ones I've met have not been very nice. :P But men seem to like them!

I really like this one.... It's flirty but not slutty... It kind of reminds me of Love Hina. I don't know why though.
