[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:09:16 AM): It's over-rated.
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:09:36 AM): man, and here I had popcorn and everything
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:09:56 AM): Ya just can't depend on rumors.
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:10:06 AM): apparently
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:10:26 AM): Now you know! And knowing is half the battle.

G.I. Jooooeeee!
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:10:47 AM): *shakes his head at you*
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:11:01 AM): =:-o
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:12:43 AM): I'm having opposite reaction day today; yesterday, I slept like 12 hours. now I can't sleep at all
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:13:20 AM): In that case, up and at 'em!
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:13:42 AM): only have 2 or 3 more hours before I start losing sleep
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:14:36 AM): *thinks*

I have no meaningful reply to that statement.
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:14:41 AM): yay!
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:14:56 AM): Or that one.
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:15:01 AM): woohoo!
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:15:15 AM): This could go on all day.
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:15:18 AM): yep
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:15:45 AM): He agreed the 15 PDF files hosted on the HRSA IC website should be taken down until they can be replaced with 508 compliant files (three of the publications/files have been archived). The 12 remaining files have been removed. We have HTML files for two of the publications, we would need to add a HMTL file column on the website. Currently, if we add the URL (to where the HTML file is posted) to the URL field in ICS, the HTML file is listed on the website as a PDF.
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:16:15 AM): uh huh ooookay
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:16:35 AM): Hey, if you're going to be nonsensical at me, you're gonna have to compete with my job!
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:16:52 AM): awe, man, make it hard for me why don't ya
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:17:13 AM): job: *is undefeated at nonsense*
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:17:30 AM): this sucks
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:17:38 AM): *snicker*
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:17:49 AM): I'm gonna complain, somewhere out of earshot
[livejournal.com profile] the_gneech (11:18:11 AM): job: *does a really bizarre victory dance*
[livejournal.com profile] jamesbarrett (11:18:23 AM): =:-o

Excellent. Food always tastes better when you can steal it from people who don't want to share.

Reminds me of the time I sat next to this obnoxious little kid during a free screening of Hitchhiker's Guid to the Galaxy.

kid: *eyeballing my popcorn* Do you have butter on that?
me: *suspicious* Yes.
kid: *disappointed* Oh.
*a few minutes later*
kid: *eyeballing popcorn again* Are you going to eat all that?
me: Yes!

My remedy for that situation was developing an odd taste in toppings. Or have a foul-tasting decoy handy.

the PDF blurb made sense to me!

now, are both the PDFs and HTML files JAWS compliant?

Well, that's a difficult question to answer. The PDFs don't require that much work to make them pass Acrobat 8's full accessibility check, but the question is, "Is that good enough for them to be 508-compliant?" Nobody seems to know.

as long as the PDFs can be accessed with Acrobat Reader 8 (or whatever Adobe's calling their free PDF viewer version) and there are alternative options besides viewing the screen, that should work.

I would also test the PDFs and HTML against a group of text readers depending on the audience (which is so broad based it would be hard to test them all)

I've got a copy of JAWS installed (evaluation copy), which actually violates their licensing agreement. Buh?

if your clients routinely ask you for JAWS compliance, I suggest you buy a copy like I did. I also was able to learn more about the interface because it is not intuitive (and there are a lot of user settable options).

You're gonna to need a bigger blurb!

*adds to the nonsense*

Actual headline: "Clouds made yesterday meant chill stuck aroundly." Move zig for great justice.

http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080225/NEWS01/802250418/1008/NEWS01

And, yes, it reads, "aroundLy".

Southern Indiana plus Western Kentucky equals Kentuckiana. Several of the big cities down-a-that-a-way all kind of merge into one...so, they formed their own pseudostate called Kentuckiana.

Oh, and they changed the headline. How sad.

Wait, its more important the files be 404 compliant than 508 compliant? Who exactly does that help?

Grammar Nazi!

I've been playing Grammar Nazi a lot for the last two weeks; it's part of the jobs I've taken for a sophomore English teacher at University High School.

Shouldn't that be "need to add an HTML file column"? Read it aloud. HTML is pronounced, "aich-tee-em-ell," which suggests that "an" should precede the dipthong, "ai."

Except the "h" stands for "hyper," so if you're reading "html" as "hypertext markup language," then it should be "a". ;)

Not that anybody does, of course. :D

That's acceptable. If you spell out, "hypertext markup language," then it would be "a hypertext markup language file."

Goodness gracious! I've been doing too many "Caught-Ya" dialogues with my students. This is becoming a standard mode of conversation for me.

Help!
