I have, at work, been re-listening to my audiobook edition of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, as read by the author, the late great Douglas Adams.

Today, I happened upon the passage where Dirk Gently is listening to the taped message Gordon Way left on Susan's answering machine before being shot, and there's a bit about how Dirk feels slightly creepy listening to the dead man's voice on the tape.

So I was listening to a dead man's voice on tape, talking about listening to a dead man's voice on tape.

Strangely enough, I didn't get creeped out. I suspect that it's because if I were to encounter the ghost of Douglas Adams, I would expect the first thing to happen, after I asked for his autograph, would be that he would demand a cup of tea.

Something of the same flavour, but more deliberately, is in the Tertiary Phase of the radio program, wherein Agrajag is played post-mortem by Adams courtesy of a recording of a stage reading of LtU&E he had done once. And so, here's Douglas Adams, complaining bitterly about being dredged up from the afterlife again and again for the whims of Arthur Dent.

I have this idea it was from his reading of Life, the Universe, and Everything for another audiobook, but I'm not positive of that. (The audiobook version of that I have has Stephen Moore/Marvin/Eddie, with his voice jiggery-pokied in the appropriate spots for Marvin.)

Of course, being as you would be forced by your location to give him American tea, he would then haunty you forever. =^_^=

What, and be unable to get good tea? Are you mad?

Well, if he's in America in the first place, he'll be stuck here, 'cause ghosts can't cross over water.

Douglas Adams posthumously taught me to make a really excellent cup of tea.

I had the chance to talk almost one-on-one with Douglas Adams on a couple of occasions. He was VERY interesting. Unfortunately I didn't find out until after his passing that we shared March 11th as a birthday.
