Yes, there really was one. 0.o I watched it this evening.

It was ... weak.

Take the plot of the early episode "Dear Sexy Knickers," throw in a little of Woody Allen's Bananas, and set it all at a Spanish hotel, and you've got the whole thing. The pacing is slow, half the jokes stop making sense out of context, and you're left at the end wondering if maybe the show wasn't quite so good as you remember it being.

Oh well! Back to Netflix it goes.

Couldn't agree more. Young Mr Grace rolling in on a tank sporting the Union Flag was the crowning touch to a recycled plot. And where were Mrs Peacock and Rumbold, I'd like to know!

AYBS? is kind of hit-or-miss to start with. I've watched the entire series and kept track of which episodes I liked or didn't like. As the series went on, there were fewer and fewer per season that made me laugh, but overall, only about half of the series was worth watching, IMHO.

It didn't need a movie and it didn't need a spin-off either.

Most British situation comedy goes badly wrong when it is sent abroad for a feature-length Christmas special (which was common) or even cinematic release (which wasn't). Historically, the directors have become excited about the budget and forgotten what made the programme popular in the first place.

Also, as [livejournal.com profile] russ_arulo indicated, it might be the show as a whole really wasn't as good as you recall. <:)
