Computer No Worky

Posting from lythandra's computer, because mine has apparently become hosed. GORT is quite the lemon, it seems. >.< Currently it will call up a desktop and even put icons on it, but as soon as you try to interact with it, the hard drive starts going "grind, grind, grind, grind" and everything comes to a halt.

The problem started while I was in the midst of a LotRO game and things went from "slow" to "dead slow" to "completely nonresponsive." Several hard power-downs and reboots later, the thing is now so much dead weight on my desk. I'm going to keep messing with it for a bit longer, but I'm more than a little afraid that I have a $900 brick on my desk.

Y'know, at one point this time last month, we were talking about getting lythandra a new computer. Maybe we can get a good deal on a 2-for-1 special. -.-

"Grind, grind, grind" in the sense of the hard drive heads hitting the platter? Or as if it is trying to load something and failing? Is your PDA still attached (you mentioned before that the USB drivers caused your computer to thrash if the PDA was still attached...)?

I'm sorry you are having computer problems. I wish I could help. :(

It seemed more than anything else like it was trying and failing to load. It seems to have recovered for now, fortunately, and I'm looking into a more long-term solution.
