There are a ton of these on YouTube, but this is my favorite...

If Paul McGann had actually gotten that TV series he deserved. :) Of them all, he actually played the Doctor for the longest continuous stretch — if you count the audio adventures. ;)

He's under rated as a Doctor, he had the right stuff to make a success of a TV series, character wise, acting ability, his audio adventures are excellent. But in the TV movie he was crippled by an absolutely appalling script.

.....and what the HELL were those voices that were supposed to be Daleks?

Aw, the '96 movie's script wasn't any worse than some of what snuck past Davies -- and CERTAINLY no worse than some of the more egregious classic-era serials.

And the sets were MAGNIFICENT. OMG, that TARDIS!

Yes, the original series had it's share of bad scripts too :P

But it also had great ones, Paul McGann unfortunately never got the chance to show what he could do on screen with one of the good ones.

IMO, the TV-movie's script, as shaky as it was, was still much better than some of the gawdawful scripts that got filmed during Sylvester McCoy's run... At least the TV-movie's plot mostly made sense, whereas episodes like "The Happiness Patrol" and "Ghost Light" were completely incomprehensible.

Hitching all their hopes on a runaway hit in the U.S. was a mistake, too. Especially when they put it up right against what was already the most popular show in the country at the time. Just badly handled all around.

Actually, if I recall correctly, the tv-movie originally aired opposite the NBA finals -- which just compounds the stupidity.

From memory, the return of Dr who was pretty slow initially. I heard that while the film with Paul McGann went down well in the UK it was a failure in the US.

Then again we have a certian Michael Grade to thank for killing off Dr who in the first place in the 80s ..... x.x
