Sad, But Not Surprising

WotC to discontinue its Star Wars license in May 2010.
I think most people who've been watching the trends are not terribly surprised, but it still makes me sad. Star Wars Saga Edition is the single best product WotC ever produced, by a wiiiiiiiide margin.
That said, it's still a perfectly viable system for continuing my campaign. :)

Date: 2010-01-28 08:48 pm (UTC)While I'm sad to see that Unknown Regions will be the last book, I don't feel ripped off. I'm satisfied. I think that they covered all the major bases for expansion content that needed to be covered without letting the system grow to something unwieldy. I can't think of anything Star Wars that says, "But wait, they didn't do a book about <X>!" (Well, except for maybe the New Jedi Order, but I was never all that fond of that anyway, and it's not like it really requires new rules of its own with Jedi Academy covering most of those bases.)
Plus, we got a core rulebook and thirteen full supplements. I don't think we can complain that we never got enough. :)
So, farewell, Saga Edition. You might be ending, but your books aren't going to disappear off of my shelves.

Date: 2010-01-28 11:45 pm (UTC)No, they were talking a couple years ago about how difficult it was to produce a Star Wars product, because Lucasfilm wanted to review every product before it went to market, and the licensing fees were very high. So, difficult to produce and not as profitable as they'd like = dead.
