Greetings From Windows XP

Well, the "Recovery Disk" that came with my HP Pavilion was garbage -- big surprise there -- so I went to Best Buy and got a copy of Windows XP. After a bit of fighting with it to convince it that yes, I did have a hard drive, it is now installed and seems to be running happily ... if a bit on the pokey side.
The true test will come when I fire up Photoshop ... later.
But for now, I exist! Yay. :)

I hear horror stories out the wazoo about it, yet I've been running it for around 6 months now, and it hasn't crapped out AT ALL, where before that, I fought with "the blue screen of death" for YEARS.
Given that MickySloth is evil incarnate, I have to give the Devil his dues---
The fool thing WORKS.
(Hey, I was about ready to toss it all and buy a MAC---! EEEEE!!!!!)
Glad you're back among the cyber-living!

And it does not have the built-in mechanism that requires "giving the devil his dues" on a monthly basis, as XP has.
Microsoft just announced a couple of days ago that they are going to delay somewhat the new rental payment plan, and have a different arrangment for small business; apparently, they fear some reprisals so soon after the Lawsuit.
We shall see.
And to The Gneech: Good to see that you've made it through!
The Lady Anne sends a suggestion: take your art, computer-colored, and print it on a transparent plastic. This will make it look like a "cel", which is Very Trendy to hang in offices. ];)

They just don't like ME---
My neighbor has had several (latest is an IMac) and every one of his that I've even TOUCHED has suddenly gone belly-up, to the point he's had to reload both the OS and the programs.
Needless to say, I no longer go NEAR his Macs...
Yet at the newspaper where I worked, I used them for YEARS, doing digital imaging. Funky, sometimes a bit flaky---but compared to the PCs at that time, the Macs worked GREAT---
