the_gneechWell, the "Recovery Disk" that came with my HP Pavilion was garbage -- big surprise there -- so I went to Best Buy and got a copy of Windows XP. After a bit of fighting with it to convince it that yes, I did have a hard drive, it is now installed and seems to be running happily ... if a bit on the pokey side.
The true test will come when I fire up Photoshop ... later.
But for now, I exist! Yay. :)

They just don't like ME---
My neighbor has had several (latest is an IMac) and every one of his that I've even TOUCHED has suddenly gone belly-up, to the point he's had to reload both the OS and the programs.
Needless to say, I no longer go NEAR his Macs...
Yet at the newspaper where I worked, I used them for YEARS, doing digital imaging. Funky, sometimes a bit flaky---but compared to the PCs at that time, the Macs worked GREAT---
