Icewind Dale II is just not as much fun to play the original Icewind Dale was. IWD1, while combat-heavy, at least had something resembling a storyline; IWD2 is nothing but fight, fight, fight. And those fights come in two varieties: either you go through the enemy like tissue paper, or Total Party Kill.

The flow of the game is: "Wander, kill a baddie, wander, kill a baddie, wander, hit an unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, unexpectedly get through the unwinnable battle unscathed, return to wandering."

Oh, and there are traps every five feet ... but even with maxed out Search skill, your rogue can't find any of them.

Last night, after posting today's Grab Bag (I like the kitty, he's kyoote!), I hit the "replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle, replay the unwinnable battle," stage again, and decided I'd give up on it for the evening after an hour of replaying the battle and try again in the morning.

This morning, I could only stand to replay the unwinnable battle for half an hour before getting sick of it. If I get really sick of it, I'll just crank the difficulty down, win the damn fight, and set it back to normal again. I hate to do that, but soon it's going to reach the point of doing that, or just putting the game on the shelf and never playing it again. I've got other things to spend my time on.

The kicker is that just to calm my nerves, I pulled out "Spider Solitaire," a game which is usually fairly easy for me, just to play a hand or two. Guess what? Lost, lost, lost, lost, lost.

There will be no fun for me today, it seems. :P

Sure you can have fun, squish some ants or burn them with a beam of light. Fun on the work can happen by doing you work but just barely enough to say that you are doing something enough to get paid for. Make notes about people around you then fit them into some storyline that only exsists in your head unless you want to put it to something else. If caught day dreaming use the excuse of you are just realiseing howwonderful the p;lace is to work and you are thinking about posting it to news groups somewhere.

Anyhoo dude, things do always turn up for ways to haev fun with anything. Some just happen and you not realise it till it's over.

I hear you tell me about how hard a fight things are in games you play before I do and I never seem to have as much trouble with them as you did. This is merely an observation. In IWD 1, you spoke of hordes of undead that had to be fought to find the shaman guy on the island. While they were tough buggers, I still breezed through them. Either I'm a better in game strategist than you are or I'm just that damn lucky. I'll let you decide which. :) -Frisko
