*cough cough splat*
Dec. 18th, 2002 08:38 pmI must have some funky stuff sliding around in my lungs, because first on Monday night and now again tonight, I came back from with the nastiest rattling cough ... it feels like a chest cold, except that an hour or two after class is over, the cough is gone and I'm breathing normally -- or at least, as normal as I breathe.
Tonight's class didn't leave me as wiped out as Monday's did, but that's because Wednesday is forms night, while Monday is fitness training. Most of my night tonight consisted of practing horse stance (mabu), punching a pad against the wall, kicking the points of a star-shaped target (five elements), and joint-strengthening exercises involving a weight on the end of a string connected to a rod (fishing).
Sifu Yung told me that my first month would be an intensive strength-training program to get me in the shape necessary to do the forms properly, which I was expecting. I am in better shape than a lot of my friends -- but I'm sad to say that isn't saying much for me. ;) Most of my friends are sedentary geek types!
I'm thinking that once the holidays are over and I can get into a regular routine, what I'll end up doing is kung fu Mon and Weds, with strength training on my own (weights, maybe jogging) on Saturdays; the hardest part is going to be keeping up with SJ and not neglecting Laurie and my friends while I do all this. I just have to remember to take it easy, do what I can when I can, and let things take care of themselves.

Since moving out on my own, however, I have been second-hand smoke free. ;)

Ya know, I've had that same problem for a week and a half now....and I have no idea why. I haven't done anything different lately, haven't started my Yoga yet, haven't had any colds or sicknesses, and Bob quit smoking a year ago....but for some reason at odd times I'll get a terrible case of the hacks for no apparent reason, which will go on for a couple of hours, and then go away. It tends to get worse when I go to bed, probably because I lay down. I couldn't even sleep the other day because every time I laid back down I kept hacking....but then last night I was fine. I wish I had some idea what it is, but oh well....I'm taking vitamins and maybe it'll go away once I start Yoga and stuff...more exercise oughta clear them out, I hope! :)
