I don't wanna go to war with Iraq again. :P

And while I suspect Powell is probably right about the Iraqi report to the U.N. being "12,200 pages of lies, gaps and omissions," at the same time, the U.S. government isn't exactly being forthcoming about what evidence they have to the contrary, as far as I can tell.

ADMINISTRATION: Iraq is a bunch of dirty fibbers!

CIVIC-MINDED CITIZEN: Oh really! What leads you to that conclusion?

ADMINISTRATION: *narrows eyes* Why do you want to know? Do you have ties to Al Quaeda?

CIVIC-MINDED CITIZEN: Um, I was just asking...

This is not how a free country is supposed to be run, guys.

It's because of crap like this, that I am a fervent isolationist. Free trade with all; alliances and/or aid to none. If private citizens want to send money to Israel, or support rebels in South America, or whatever, that's their own beeswax. But the government should have no part of it.

Isolationism doesn't work. It was tried after WWI when we abandoned the League of Nations and told the world to piss off - that we didn't need anyone and that their problems weren't ours. The result? Hitler, the revival of nationalism, and WWII. Their problems _became_ ours and lots and lots of people died as a result.

There is something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. I suspect it is because secret information shows that Iraq is where the 20 missing "suitcase" bombs stolen from Russia are right now, and that Iraqi scientists are working to defeat the code block and put in a pickle switch. I don't know, I can only speculate. But considering all the reasons the public and the military publically know for not proceeding with such an action, the reasons for it must be very dire indeed.

I don't want a war, either. But there are times it is unavoidable. Just pray that our leaders have good information and guidance from above - they'll need it.

There is probably no guidance from above. Charlemange claimed guidance from above, so did every Greek and Roman army, so did the Crusades.

I think that if there is some Supreme being out there, I think it'd probably have better things to do than to pick sides- or, as far as some creeds go, be extremely interested in your love life :)

I said Guidance; not a cheerleading squad. That guidance could be anything from "Bad Idea, Dubya," to "Aim for the Gonads." If you prefer, hope that those in charge gain wisdom quickly.

And any being interested in my love life, supreme or not, has to be extremely bored. :)

I agree. Bush is a Christian, and more than just in name only. I sincerely hope that he enters this conflict with long and prayerful consideration. Advisors be damned, the best one he can have is the Almighty. Human advisors lead to things like Vietnam.

And Maus, the Crusades were not holy acts, though they claimed to be so. They were motivated by greed and the desire for temporal power.

Shockwave had a good point - there is much more happening than "Big Brother" is willing to tell us. But Dubya's bungling is going to do more damage than good. *sigh* this is going to be an interesting Christmas.
