Well, after some introspection and a fair amount of throwing away bits that didn’t work to make room for new bits that do, I think I may have Arclight Adventures moving in the right direction again. Fortunately, the changes I’ve made don’t require throwing away any of the finished pages!

And because I don’t want you to think I’m all talk and no action, here is a teaser page:

Arclight Adventures, Page One, art by The Gneech and color by Richard Wyatt

I think I’m ready to get back to work. :)

Looking very nice! I can't wait to see the finished books.

I'd like to see some rayguns!

"Lightning guns" are in the mix, definitely. :) Although most people are just as happy with gunpowder. ;)

Hey, the coloring came out really nice! I don't envy having to color in all that detail @.@

My only suggestion? I always associate steampunk with more muted earthtones. Yeah, I know the entire WORLD can't be like that, but the blue/green things like the awnings and the man's tie seem a touch out of place?

Actually, that was a deliberate decision because among steampunk fans particularly, the complaint is "Everything is always BROWN! If the Elizabethans had bright colors, why can't Victorians?" And actually, if you look at period clothes etc., they were a lot more colorful than people tend to think. :)

Richard's initial colors were actually much closer to the steampunk stereotype, and we went back and forth on it quite a bit. :)

LOL, I thought they PURPOSELY wanted it so brown. Okay, then!

This is the period of great experimentation on coal tar, which produced the brilliant red, green, and blue cloth dyes you see in paintings. No more boiling woad or bashing purifying molluscs for the Victorians! Back Then, photographs were B&W which faded to sepia tones, so all the colours they wore were only rendered in shades of grey (or brown).

Products derived from coal tar gave us the early paper photographs, pharmaceuticals and plastics.

Actually, since this is the opening page, you know what might be funny? Sepiatone out the first two panels, and then show the third panel in full color. XD

To be honest, I'm not digging the color, it's too bright, too primary, especially for a steampunk (Yeah, I know, I've got the rep for digging b&w comics.)

Have you considered running it through a sepia filter to tone it down and mute it out a bit?

Or even just limiting the color palates to a set of basics? (Thinking the old Doc Savage book covers, and things from that era. More lithography)

Go for the full color, it looks great. :)

Although the 'start sepia, then switch to color' idea is pretty funny too. Hee!
