I Love This Printer! XD

Okay, it isn't often that I go "Squee!" over a piece of computer hardware. In fact, I'm usually a lot more likely to go "#&$@!!!" over a piece of computer hardware. But this thing is a major exception.

The thing in question is an Epson Stylus NX430, which I picked up for $60 at Best Buy (on sale for Memorial Day , the normal price is usually closer to $100). This thing is small but fierce. O.o On the high-quality print setting and on photo paper, the output is gorgeous and (to me, at least) barely discernible from pro printing. It also scans at 300 dpi, which will be a very handy thing to have at convention tables.

But both of those, cool as they are, are not the really cool bit. The really cool bit is that it can connect via WiFi to the iPad, and via the iPad to Google Docs (or the iCloud). This means that I can basically scan straight to, or print straight from Google Docs, thus having print-on-demand for whatever prints I might want to have at the con.

This, IMO, is sweeeeet. :) Finally, an artifact of the future that's as awesome as advertised!

Its portability is a bit limited; I'd pretty much stick with cons I was driving to for it. But even so, that's AC and Intervention at the very least.

And $60. Dude.

The only thing I have against Epson's inkjet printers is that even on the "economy print" settings, they suck down ink with the voracious appetite of Dracula in a blood bank.

I just priced replacement cartridges. I'm not sure but if it comes with ink cartridges it MIGHT just be cheaper to buy a new printer when it runs out.

We're looking into a more expensive device, a $400 all-in-one wireless laser printer plus a $50 discount for turning in our old printer out of Office Max. My current printer and scanner don't have drivers for Windows 7 so I haven't been able to use them in MONTHS. I'm glad you found a good one.

Other then cost is there a reason you went to ink jet and not laser? I like the Epson printers but as has been mentioned they do suck down ink and the cartridges can be pricy. I've had my OKI C3200n for years and put it through a lot of paper. It still cranks out photo quality prints and the cartridges, while twice as expensive as ink jet, seem to last much longer.

Never the less I'm glad you're happy with that machine and hope it gives you good service.

Portitudability, and the cost of the ink is not -that- big of a factor for me. I'm generally printing stuff either to sell at cons, or to support sales at cons, so it's figured into the cost of doing business, as it were.
