Guess it's time for my hipster moment. ¬.¬

So I picked up the Borderlands 2 Mechromancer class add-on. The core concept of the class is "Anime Schoolgirl with a big, badass robot." Which is cool and all, but...

Well, let's just come out and say it. Half the class abilities are My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic references. And far from charming me, it put me right off. Compare this with the recent news that IDW's upcoming My Little Pony comic series has over 90,000 preorders, outselling X-Men and generally making people lose their tiny little minds.

I don't want to be mean about it. MLP:FIM is good. Yes. But it's not that good. -.- And it's certainly not so good that I want it saturating my life.

Okay, it's not entirely a hipster moment. This is not a "liked it before it was cool" post, because I didn't. I didn't even hear about it until there were already AJ & RD fursuits bouncing around at AnthroCon and the first season was over. This is more like someone in the '60s who enjoyed the Beatles and liked their concerts getting dismayed at the screaming frenzied mobs who started chasing John, Paul, George, and Ringo everywhere they went. As the casual Beatles fan is to Beatlemania, so am I to MLP:FIM.

Oh well. Life carries on, I guess!

I'm a fan of the show, but it's not the be all end all for me. I'm on the fringe...pretty much the same way I am about Furry. It's there, in my life but that's not all there is. Though I do have a small, growing army of pony blind-bag figures on my desk, staring at me, wanting to increase their technicoloury numbers. But, then, I'm by nature a collector...

ok, that is definitely overkill. I enjoyed MLP for a super cool cartoon in a world where cartoon are rarely super cool anymore, but seriously? It does not need to be everywhere. I'm content with random encounters online and my little pinkie pie on my desk you gave me. :) a rulebook about a different kind of game saturated with references to MLP; that's just silly :P

I agree. I liked season one of FIM, although I haven't watched much since. But it's just a decent TV show, and I've never really understood the 'fandom' attitude at all anyway. There are far too many good things out there for me to obsess about any one.

Well, I was doing the horse thing when fim showed up, and I'll be doing the horse thing when it's forgotten*. But still, I enjoy it for what it is, good, clean fun.

*My gf is both a horse furry and a fan of FIM as well, though she's also an old school mlp fan and I believe prefers the G1 ponies.

I took one look at her and shrugged. My first impression was of a demented, evil Pippi Longstocking with a cheap cyberlimb. Quite unimpressed.

As for MLP, I've seen a few episodes of S1, noting of S2, and am perfectly content to leave it that way.
