I have decided to stop the aggregate Tweets posts to LJ. It turns out I almost never go back to look at them, and it was getting kind of discouraging to look at my LJ and see "My Tweets, My Tweets, My Tweets" all the time. I think it was producing more noise than signal.

I do miss the days of a vibrant LJ community, tho. Where have all the comments gone? Say what you want about life in 140 characters, there is at least a lot of conversation going on over there!

I'll try to make a point of putting more cool stuff here tho. :)

EDIT: Hmm. Maybe I'm being too hasty here. You folks tell me, yes Tweets, or no? I'd like to know what people think. :)

I think I'll miss your tweets. I'm not on Twitter, and don't want to be, but you found some entertaining stuff. Every once in a while, I'd be having a bad day, and you found something to cheer me up.

Hmm. Okay, I'll open it up for polling and see what other folks think. :)

I've wondered whether to carry on with that too. Originally I wanted to have the "My tweets" posts be private, and was intending to regularly look back at them, make a proper LJ post summarising anything worth summarising, and delete the auto-posts. That has never happened, of course... but I have had a few positive replies to the auto-posts from people who aren't on twitter.

I'm not really sure which is best. I'm not all that in favour of making Twitter be the be-all and end-all of my online communications, but it does dominate. I wish I had more time (and inclination) to write LJ posts, but I doubt many would read them. Even when I post a link to Twitter (or have LJ do so) I suspect hardly anyone actually follows the link, given that most won't even spot the tweet in amongst the torrent. (Well, I suppose some will; I probably just follow far too many people.)

I've found a few gems among your links, too, Pippin.

I didn't mind the "My Tweets" even though I'm on Twitter more often now. I'd probably post more on LJ if my life weren't kind of… ugh… right now. I"m generally just sick of posting "My life sucks for this brand NEW reason." Critiquing Trek is more fun if excessively nerdy. ;)

While always a day behind, cause I'm not onTwitter, it did let me read what you'd been saying all day, although I too was noticing the whole tweet post, tweet post, tweet post effect as well.

The signal does get through, even with the noise. I'm "on" Twitter, but I don't follow it all that much. These daily gatherings of your thoughts allows me to filter through one of the few people I follow, without all the commercial spam from corporations.

I miss the Live days of LiveJournal myself.

I'll stick around here until they kill the servers, and even then I hope to get enough advance notice to archive posts from friends who've helped me along the way, as well as my own.

The tweets are an often amusing window into your life, and I'll peek and comment for as long as LJ will let me.

I'll join the chorus of "there is stuff i'd miss since i'm not on twitter".

I'd also agree that the self referential tweets pointing back at LJ posts which somebody seeing here will find anyway... are probably redundant enough to go.

Another issue is that sadly, the aggregator you were using would often barf on a URL, if it exceeded the character limit, then it became a game of 'which bit do i click to see this specific post and follow the link from there'.

Sometimes I read your twitter posts even though I am on Twitter. (Although my LJ feed is still busy enough that I sometimes skip 'em, too.) I certainly do not mind them!

my lj is so quiet, some weeks my flist goes Tweets by Gneech, tweets by gneech, tweets by gneech, someone else's post, tweets by gneech, but I hardly follow anyone really and I'm as quiet as they are :P

Since I'm not on Twitter, posting your tweets here is the only way I would see them.

I think it's your journal and you should do what you damn well please with it. That said, I personally ignore all Twitter-related posts because Twitter annoys me. I don't find it a valid method of communication because it forces everything into truncated, squashed posts and because it's too often used for minutiae that I usually hae no interest in.

......he said, as he shook his cane from his rocking chair on his porch. I AM getting grumpier as I age.

So...yeah. I don't read those, but it's your journal and you do what you want. :)

cheers,
Phil
