Evolution is not predictable in any real sense. Humanity is billions of evolutions, not counting the complexities of the brain. There are certain commonalities to mob psychology, but no one predicted the social impact of the internet, and we haven't got it right yet.

I have concerns, but we are in uncharted territory. I have made my living modeling predictive systems, and mine were extremely good. But I have little faith in 'em, for all of that.

We cannot predict the key factors, only guess wildly at average ones. It has proven itself to be not enough.
