Once again, I got flack at the con from people who want me to start up NeverNever again, and once again, I gave them the same answer I always do: I want me to start up NeverNever again, but if it was that easy, I would have done it already!

At one point, I was talking to my sister about having her take over the art duties, but I don't think she really understood just what a big undertaking she was proposing to jump into. A comic strip is an ever-hungry beast -- "What have you done for me today?" It's not something a harried mother of three can just pick up on the fly.

However, I am still potentially interested in having somebody take on the art duties, but the problem is finding an artist who:

  • Likes NeverNever
  • Is looking for a project
  • Could handle producing at least two strips a week
  • Has the right art style
  • I know and have a good rapport with -- or at least trust enough to try

Vince talked about doing it at one point, but we both pretty much agreed its baroque nature wasn't really suited to his very rugged art style.

Ah well, I guess I'll have to keep pondering it for the moment. If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

I like NeverNever...

...and I'd rather it be dormant, or even done and over, rather than done poorly. (I'm no artist, therefore...)

Hmm...

And Double Hmm...

Black and white art...
No big coloring projects...
Someone else does the writing...

And only 3 panels, twice a week...

Hmm...

Would I do?

Toss me a few test-renders of NN characters, particularly Arthur, Mopsy, and Col. Beowulf? I'm not sure your style has quite the storybook feel I'm looking for.

Okay, I just tossed off a Mopsy Face study.

Beowulf and Arthur will take longer.
I don't have as much experience drawing human
faces.

Should get 'em to you later today, okay?

"Rugged." Huh. I never would have thought of that. That's a good way to put it.

Thanks. :) I think as time as gone by and he's become more comfortable with the idea of drawing what he wants to draw, just because he wants to draw it, it's become more so. His art isn't nearly as toony as it used to be.

Definately a difficult situation --- if you're doing NeverNever (which is also extremely excellent work by the way, Gneech), you're not doing SJ, and vice versa. Not enough hours in the day.

Maybe combine the two in a storyline somehow? THAT would be interesting to see, and you could get NeverNever fans to read a bit of SJ and vice versa.

Lizard Rat out.

I'd offer my services Gneech, but at the moment I just wouldn't have the time to really devote myself to the project. (For one thing there's Uni, then there's Dream and a couple of commissions I've promised people and am still very slowly getting to.) Sorry - would love to help out, but no-can-do.

Well, what I pointed Scott to was the art from the card game "Guillotine."
