According to Newsweek, Saruman's death has been cut from the film -- and, in fact, Saruman just doesn't show up at all.

WTF? That's like leaving Darth Vader of out Return of the Jedi!

I realize some allowances have to be made for the transition from book to film -- I knew the scouring of the Shire wasn't going to make it into the film, even though Tolkien thought it was one of the most important parts of the story -- but to leave Saruman's fate dangling at the end of Two Towers is just plain bad storytelling.

Big mistake. Big, big mistake.

Ooookay, my drive to see this movie in the theaters has just diminished somewhat.

Here's a pretty extensive story about Internet coverage of this story.

It may be too late, and even if it's not, it may be ineffectual, but here's the online petition to put Saruman back.

Well, now I'm not going to see the movie, even though I saw the other two. You're right --- that's a Bad Thing that those movie peoples are going to later regret.

Lizard Rat out.

Perhaps if they hadn't tried to make this Vigo Mortensen's Great Journey, then perhaps they wouldn't have had to cut out so much out of everything else.

They cut it out for a reason. It should have been included in the Two Towers. Including it in Return of the King is kind of a weird place to start off from. It'll end up on the final box set. *I believe they had said they made the decision too late for it to be on the Two Towers extended version.*

Like heck I'm going to pay $25 to $40 on a three-DVD set so I can see scenes that shouold have already been there to begin with?
Harry Pothead can have my money, I'm not wasting it on the last LOTR installment. I have the books anyways.
