WTF? That's like leaving Darth Vader of out Return of the Jedi!
I realize some allowances have to be made for the transition from book to film -- I knew the scouring of the Shire wasn't going to make it into the film, even though Tolkien thought it was one of the most important parts of the story -- but to leave Saruman's fate dangling at the end of Two Towers is just plain bad storytelling.
