Very bizarre experience to hear NPR of all places praising the Bush administration!

Refreshing ... but bizarre. :)

It was a piece about the administration's ongoing role in negotiations to end the civil war in Sudan, for those who are wondering. Coverage of Bush's immigration proposals (re: broadening Green Card eligibility and the "temporary worker program" to create a legitimate avenue for undocumented workers) was fairly positive, too.

Not knowing much about the situation in Sudan, I can't really comment on it. As for immigration, I'm pretty much an "open the floodgates" guy myself. The libertarian credo, "anything that's peaceful," and all that. But I don't expect any administration to adopt my views in my lifetime.

A political post -- and no response.

Better yet, a post that describes a program praising the Bush administration as "refreshing" -- and no response.

The immigration issue is ... complex. I find myself on all sides of it, or at least able to empathize with all sides. It is not possible to continue without harm, nor to resolve without harm.

It is especially difficult in these times to adopt an open door policy with regard to immigration, for obvious reasons (Most of the terrorists of 9/11 had outstayed their visas. Imagine how much worse the situation would be without visas). On the other hand, restricting immigration for the sake of jobs only exports those jobs elsewhere.

Prosperity has, and always will, come to the generous, rather than the stingy.

The terrorists of the world, however, believe the opposite.
