FC 2004 Report: Friday (#2 of 5)
Jan. 27th, 2004 01:26 pmBeing an east coast guy on west coast time means two things: everybody you want to call is already asleep, and when you sleep late, you still get up early. Thus it was that at 6:00 I was dressed and waiting for Jaded Fox to finish his shower so we could wander across the street to the Starbucks-in-walking-distance.
Mmmm, Starbucks in walking distance...
From there, the morning was fairly low-key. I ran into
smrgol_t_kirin in the lobby and chatted with him for a bit, then got a glimpse of T'Chall, Kage, and a Mysterious Unnamed Fur in the hotel restaurant, so I hung out with them for a bit until the dealer room opened for prep.
The table was nicely placed, directly across from Derek Dasenbrock and Cooner, and next to
athelind and crew at the Ironclaw table.
Spiritwolf commissioned a sketch before the room even opened, as did Athelind ... always nice to make $40 before the day even starts! I also traded Uncle Kage a sketch of Rogue for one of the remaining AC2003/Samurai Cat shirts.
Once the room started, I was visited by Kamau, Innerwolf, and various other folks, and happily sketched away as Kerry schmoozed and sold and moved inventory, as they say. :)
As I write this, 4:30 pm on my Handspring and keyboard attachment, I am caught up on sketches, room traffic is fairly light, and Kerry, Vince, Thomas and I are planning to head out to a Japanese steak house when the room closes.
Mmmm, Japanese steak house...
11:00 pm -- Well, the steak house was nice, but it probably wasn't the most well-advised plan ... our party mushroomed from four to nine, half of whom had to be back by 8:30, theoretically. Being back by 8:30 might have been feasible if there were just the four of us, but with nine, no way. So, while we did get a nice meal, we didn't get to see the art show, and everybody who was on a timeline ended up late. Oops. I did recommend that Jonas get in contact with
katayamma for coloring a new project.
When we got back, I went up to Vince & Thomas' room to work on a sketch for
trejaan, but I hadn't gotten very far when I got the distinct impression that what those two actually wanted was sleep, so I took my leave and came back to my room, pausing only to hunt down a bottle of water. I'm probably going to sketch a little bit more, then hit the hay.
Tomorrow, Kerry says that we should have the books in (finally) and some more prints. Tomorrow is also my panel and Iron Artist. The more I can get done on this Drezzer/Falstaff sketch tonight, the better shape I'll be in to work on other stuff tomorrow.
