I Contain Multitudes
May. 8th, 2002 10:22 amI am a mighty confused critter; there's no way around it. I am simultaneously all these things:
Apparently, I should expect to get a phone call re: the Circle Solutions job today, for which I'm at the top of the list of applicants.
That would be a step up from Starbucks: I'd be in an office environment at least most of the time, working a more regular M-F daytime schedule, and getting a higher pay rate (something like $12/hr instead of $7.25/hr). On the other hand, I would also be the "backup courier," meaning there are times when I'd have to drive all over town, toting heavy boxes. I'd be commuting in with Laurie, which would solve the "only one car" problem.
However, this job, like Starbucks, would simply be a stepping stone. My goal, in terms of a day job, is to get back into technology sooner or later, and I've got a lot better chance of doing that if I'm working for a company that has an IT department, after all!
Meanwhile...
I have today off, and since I am in the all-too-rare position of having a little bit of cash on hand, I was thinking of going out and splurging on a new anime DVD. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to get. The next CCS DVD doesn't come out for another week, and I have no others that I know are good bets. There are lots of things that look kinda sorta interesting, but I have to buy the DVD to find out, since you can't find them on TV or for rent anywhere ... so I'm going to have to plunk down $25 - $30 and hope for the best. The problem is, just like I can't roll dice, I have discovered in my life that if there's an element of chance to anything I do, I'll come up short every time. This is why I'll never go to Vegas, for instance. (Well, not to gamble, anyway. I did spend a few minutes in the Las Vegas airport coming back from FC. It was an ... interesting experience.)
Last Thing
I am going to try to make it to AC. I plan to call the hotel today; I hope they still have rooms. I was going to share a room with Vince, but since it doesn't look like he's coming, I'll have to pay the whole thing myself. (I am very shy about who I'm willing to share a room with; I'm not one of those people who would be just as happy to flop down into a corner of the floor of someone else's room, although there are times I wish I was. I have to be very comfortable in the presence of someone, and I need a certain amount of breathing space even then.)
That's all for now. Seeya!
-The Gneech
- Bouncy and full of energy
- Sleepy and ready to pass out
- Profoundly dissatisfied with my life
- Profoundly grateful for what I have
- Excited about the possibility of the new job
- Dreading the possibility of the new job
- Wishing I had today's strip done
- Not wanting to draw today's strip
- Missing graphic design
- Happy I don't work in graphic design any more
- Telling the world all about myself
- Studiously avoiding talking about key parts of myself
- Feeling trapped by my life
- Free to pursue many things
- A fairly well-adjusted person
- A complete headcase

Date: 2002-05-08 09:47 am (UTC)Anime DVDs
Date: 2002-05-08 09:07 am (UTC)Cowboy Bebop is a sci-fi series, set about 50 years in the future in the Sol system. A lot of it takes place on Mars, and a few parts are on Earth. It has some very serious epps, and some just deadly silly ones ("Mushroom Samba" for example. :)
Both have 26 episodes, but Bebop comes on 6 DVDs, as opposed to the usual 8. So the first two disks have 5 epps, and the rest have 4.

However, it was intriguing to me that while some were opposites, some were merely restatements and not mutually exclusive at all.
The Gneech writes messages to himself, perhaps, tucked into his messages to us.
Does he read them? ;)

I wish you a better life, and don't know how to get you to live it.
But something occurs to me... I will put something together. More later.
