Date: 2005-07-12 07:22 pm (UTC)Hopefully at MFM we chat for a little bit longer, since I'm only planning on being in the Artist Alley for one day, and spending the rest of the other days roaming around the con :)

Date: 2005-07-12 08:18 pm (UTC)Anyway, do you have any advice for a first-time con-goer? What kinds of things should I bring? How does the "con-sketchbook" work?

Date: 2005-07-12 08:33 pm (UTC)2) Portable snacks.
3) A camera.
4) Register for con and hotel as early as possible.
5) Don't succumb to the temptation to skip meals.
6) S.O.A.P. -- Shower Often And Profusely!
I assume re: sketchbook you're referring to the books people carry around to get artists and friends to draw in? It's pretty straightforward, you get a little sketchbook at the bookstore or art supply store, and at the con you swap it around or leave it with people. (You should put some kind of contact info in the front of the book, in case you end up seperated from the book before the end of the con.)
Some people have "theme" sketchbooks, others just say, "I dunno, you're the artist!" Generally, artists prefer at least a little guidance. ;) Generally, the pro or semi-pro artists fill up with sketchbook requests early.
What else would you like to know?

Date: 2005-07-12 09:32 pm (UTC)1) Comfy shoes.
Got those, but they need new heel inserts. My heels were killin' after four days of touring German cities. I might bring my Birkenstocks, too.
2) Portable snacks.
Gardetto's, here we come!
3) A camera.
Got that. Lost one in Germany, thank God I brought two!
4) Register for con and hotel as early as possible.
Done and done, last November. :)
5) Don't succumb to the temptation to skip meals.
Preachin' to the choir.
6) S.O.A.P. -- Shower Often And Profusely!
Are you kidding?! When I travel, I take hour-long showers, morning and night! :)
What else would I like to know... lessee-- oh, here's a good question!
When can I invite you to dinner?

Date: 2005-07-13 03:25 am (UTC)What do you do as a guest of honor?
I was once sort of invited to be a guest at the Rocket City Fur Meet, but I couldn't go (no money to go). Now that I'm employed, I'm wondering about what happens at these things?
