Today, I seem to have California on the brain. Particularly Monterey Bay, but any place with a beach will do, pretty much.

I think it's the spring-like weather here, is making my feet come loose from their moorings.

You too?

Actually, today's warm-up has lessened some of my beach-craving. But I've been having this... this need to sit on a beach sipping cheap Coronas or rum-based drinks. What's unusual is that I'm not really a beach person.

And while there is a pretty nice beach in town, it's not nearly so nice in February....

I've got semi-accessible beaches around here too ... not sure why I'm keen on the Pacific particularly.

Well, if you're thinking the way I am, then "California" means "vacation" and all that entails, while driving to Chesapeake Bay (or, in my case, Presque Isle Bay) means "a day at a local beach, from which I will go home and back to work tomorrow". Not exactly the same thing. ;)

All the leaves are brown/
And the sky is grey...
I went for a walk/
On a winter's day...

Well, okay, so apparently the sky isn't grey for you ATM, but...

Heehee. :) Actually, the sky is a brilliant cobalt blue. But I know what you're getting at. ;)

Heh, here in Houston, one wouldn't know it's winter today. The freakin' roses are bloomin' outside. It's going to be a mosquito-fest come summer. wheee! hehe

Still, a drive up the California coast does sound lovely.

Okay, here's your theme music.

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey
I've been for a walk on a winters day
I'd be save and warm if I was in LA
California dreaming on such a winters day

Stepped into a church I passed along the way well,
I got down on my knees andI pretended to pray
You know the preacher likes the cold he knows I'm gonna stay
California dreaming on such a winters day

All the leaves a brown and the sky is grey
I've been for a walk on a winters day
If I didn't tell her I could leave today
California dreaming on such a winters day

Now all you need is to pull up the MP3.

your indoctrination is ALMOST complete....

Well, don't know about the rest of you, but I think I will stick with my snow and ice for the moment. Spring will be here soon enough, and then I'm hitting the lake.

Beaches are overrated. Grew up next to one for 29 years, after all that time with the sun and the sand, and two whole seasons, spring and summer, I think it will be a while before I miss it. Especially when I have a gorgous river, and several lakes to play in here. Not to mention the trout fishing, oh how I love trout fishing! Now for that, I wouldn't mind the snow and ice going away for...haven't been fishing in months. Ice fishing is expensive.

and you were 35 miles inland out in Tepusquet...(which I was thinking about last night for its particular brand of beauty on a full moon night, especially in spring).

Monterey Bay is wonderful. Good beaches, great ocean, lots of wildlife, good bookstores and cafes.

I love it, too!

My feet have gone loose from their moorings
I'm feeling quite wonderfully free

I think I will travel to Rio
using the music for flight
there's nothing that I know of in Rio
but it something to do with the night

("Reno? Why would you want to go to Reno?"
"Not Reno, dummy. Rio. Rio De-genero."
)
