Okay, sorry, but if I don't ask someone I'll burst. What is the original source of the "three people rocking out in a car" icon meme? What TV show that I haven't seen would I be referencing if I did my own? (because I think it's great even without context)

I have absolutely no idea where it originally came from O.o The one I saw the most was Data, Picard and Riker in a car doing that, so I was kinda inspired from that one icon :) Then I saw another one that had characters from this one particular video game (I don't remember the name of it, it's on the PS2 or something...) So I just thought it would be fun to do one of my own :)

I originally saw it on Saturday Night Live. It's a sketch that's sort of a 90s version of the Steve Martin/Dan Akroyd "Two Wild & Crazy Guys" sketch involving Martin Short, among others.

Here's where it started:
http://ckjcwf.ytmnd.com/

The animated image is, I surmise, a short clip from a Butabi Bros. skit on Saturday Night Live. The Butabi Bros. were two nightclub-obsessed guys played by Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan (and that's guest star Jim Carrey in the backseat as, I dunno, a third Butabi brother or a friend of theirs or something). I also guess that the song "What is Love" was playing on the car radio in that scene.

Since then, people have been parodying it by replacing the three head-bobbers with other characters, such as the Star Trek crew. (My favorite is the Bayeux Tapestry version, seen in one of the segments in [livejournal.com profile] exatron's link.)
