Last night was spent largely diagnosing and fixing (we hope) the router problems, or at least mitigating them some. The network still drops GORT with annoying frequency, but I suspect that's largely because it's the last holdout XP machine on what is becoming a Vista shop. [1]

Once that was done, I finished getting most of my files transferred, although there are still some important bits missing that need to be migrated before I'll be finished and ready to start working on art again. Mostly settings and files that are hiding in strange places instead of being in "My Documents" where they belong.

In cat news, Buddha still can't bear the presence of another cat. We picked up a large crate-type pen to put Buddha in so we can let Dasher run around the house, but all it did was make Buddha paw at the bars and yowl. Dasher, for his part, has clawed a big hole in the guest-room rug and is generally going stir-crazy locked in solitary confinement. I'm wondering if kitty quaaludes is the only viable answer besides "find another home for Dasher" at this point.

In gaming news, I ran another session of Star Wars on Saturday night, which went quite well I thought. It was a pretty major battle, so the session was pretty much "Fight! Fight! Fight!" But that said, it also advanced the campaign story, gave everybody a cool moment or two of "screen time," and enabled the characters to go on a mission with Luke Skywalker — at least until one of the campaign Big Bads popped up, knocked Luke off the building, and went chasing him through the city streets.

Finally, a great moment in bad ideas: The Sci Fi Channel finally admits that they hate their core audience. In other news, ESPN is going to be renamed "The Athletic Supporter's Channel."

[1] Not by choice, particularly. I constantly want to tell Vista to "SHUT UP!" It seems to think that every time I change something from the factory default, the world might explode.

Bah...Sci Fi died to me when they started buying good science fiction programming and then gutting them.

Have you tried lilac scent in the house? I don't know what your allergies may think of it, but if you put lilac scent where the boys like to spray...it may help them relax a bit. I've been trying to remember what we used to do when we had cats, but I'm not having much luck.

Well, they're both fixed, so they don't spray. We've got a "Feliway" infuser in the house, but it doesn't seem to have done much.

I regret that there's no new Stargate. As for the new BSG, I'm sorry, they couldn't pay me to watch it. I think that took place when I realized that I didn't care whether or not the Cylons killed the surviving humans or not.

I'll wait to see if and when Eureka comes back and I admit to a guilty pleasure out of watching Ghost Hunters, but I haven't watched Sci-Fi Friday since January.

The only thing that surprised me about the Sci Fi channel's new name was how bad it was. At one point, the person responsible for programming at the network admitted hating the genre.

When Galactica wraps up on Friday, I'll have no reason to watch the channel anymore. They take everything they try to remake and screw it up so badly that I want to cancel my cable. With today's effects, they could have made a fantastic "Flash Gordon", and instead did their usual Rewrite it All so it can be Filmed in Vancouver bs. And wrestling is NOT scifi unless the actors are wearing monster costumes and battling for supremacy of the Earth (Hmm, THAT I would watch).

They don't want to serve sci fi anymore? Then they are just one of the 300 other crap channels on my crap cable that I have no interest in and do not watch. Stick a fork in them -they are done.

I may just follow Jaxx's lead and cancel cable and just watch You Tube instead. Far more entertaining.

I've not paid for cable/other tv since moving into my house about five years ago. I can't say that i miss it in the least.

Show them the door, be sure to tell them why.

I'm debating getting rid of my satellite....

Yeah, unfortunately, you'd need a converter box and digital antennae to continue using your TV without cable or satellite. The main things I watch on TV anymore are certain network shows (now that there's more on besides reality TV), educational shows, and old movies.

Someone at Sci Fi... errr... SyFy needs to be punched in the face for this marketing decision. Plus, this just proves that marketers are pure evil.

It just occurred to me... maybe this syfy thing is just transitional, and is only a stepping stone to get the channel to where the marketing folks are most comfortable.

In a few years, the channel's name will be Tyttys&Byyr.

They haven't appealed to this geek in oh...since they started. Watched Doctor Who, MST3K, and the SciFi Buzz show, particularly Harlan Ellison's commentary, but that's been gone for years now.

I did get into The Prisoner thanks to their Labor Day marathon one year, but again, that was Harlan Ellison's doing.

I thought you'd decided it wasn't gonna work with two kitties. Still haven't given up hope?

And that's just LAME. Syfy sounds so AOLspeak. Forget the core audience, I don't know ANYONE who'd watch a channel named that. XP

I'm pretty sure it isn't going to work; but I do want to give it every chance. And Dasher's a good kitty, so I'd like to make sure he has a good home. :)
