I'm still trying to find a hairstyle I like. I wonder how I'd look with a Hugh Grantish "taper cut?"

I know for a fact that I look awful with short hair, so that idea is right out. Plus, I'm just plain sick of seeing men with nothing but short hair everywhere. When Tom "Somebody Kick Me In the Groin, Please" Cruise is considered to have long hair, you know the culture has really fallen into a low, in terms of coiffure.

There are guys who look better with short hair, don't get me wrong. My brother looks much better with short hair than with long, for instance. But variety, people, please! There are currently a grand total of about four men's haircuts: bald, crewcut-with-little-tuft, really short all over, or really short on the back and sides with a tiny bit more on top. That's it! Any of us walking around with more than 1" of hair anywhere on our heads are freaks, very few and far between.

It's not that I want to go back to the '70s, either, far from it. I want some guys to have short hair, some to have medium, and some to have long.

My one big fear with trying out the taper cut, is that if I don't like it, I have to spend two years growing my mane back again, which gets tiresome. At the same time, the long hair is kind of a pain in Kung Fu class and severely restrics my choice of hats. I have a black cap similar to the one Arthur wears in NeverNever, but I can't wear it while my hair is long, 'cause it makes me look like Art Garfunkel -- PUKE!

Well, for the time being, I continue to ponder. I'm open to suggestions!

I'd offer advice but I'm facing the same dilemma. So I'm just not getting my hair cut at all and letting it grow wild.

Well it's easy for you, you've got one of those faces that looks good no matter WHAT you do with your hair! I, on the other hand, am Mr. Blobby. :)

Simple.

Go "full onion" and get--and wear a nice variety of RUGS.

That way, when you get tired of the "boo-doo", you can go for the "nuu-doo".

Have a different "look" for every day of the week! When you're feeling frisky, switch them around! SHOCK people! Make them WONDER---!

(They'll "wonder", all right...)

C'mon---LIVE a little!

(And my RL hair looks a LOT like my avatar's...)

Ciao!

It's not a bad idea. There are seveal people in my church who wear wigs. All of them are women, mind you, but the fashion works. (Men will just go for the shiny dome look. But blacks can do that without people thinking they're race-suprematists.)

I've heard of him. He's a Mongol... one who the Russians called a Tartar.

That's all right. I expect it only comes from a medieval Kievan perspective. Oy, those kings of Rus: always Russian into things.

I personally prefer long, obviously. But not just for me. :) I've seen some guys put their hair in a ponytail with several bands like an inch or half inch apart all the way down the length of the tail to keep the loose part of the tail from getting in their way, you might try that for Kung Fu purposes....or double up the tail and run it back through the same band once or twice to make the hanging part shorter for class, and then you wouldn't have to cut it just 'cause it gets in the way in class.

Ah, you've got no problems in that regard. As I lose it, I will wind up with a style similar to that of your basic ceramic fixture--sort of a "Hair to the Throne" effect, perhaps.

The Gneech has an unusual and celebrated and attractive hair color. I'd suggest keeping it long. The more, the h/a/i/r/i/e/r/ merrier.

Hairbands, clips and other management techniques for sparring will be appropriate in some circumstances, and anyone with an inch of hair or more is at some potential disadvantage in combat. But this way, he keeps all his options open; he can stuff his hair up under his famous hat when he feels like it.

And the sign said
"Long-haired freaky people
Need not apply."
So I stuffed my hair
Up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why.

He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man
I think you'll do."
So I took of my hat and said "Imagine that!
Me -- working for you!"

While society has changed much since the Five Man Electrical Band recorded "Signs", the technique might still be useful from time to time. ];-)

I agree with you, in that big men with thick, red hair should wear it LONG and (with the beard) FULL. Always thought the "Red Beard the Pirate" (Black Beard's bastard brother) and/or the "Eric the Red" look was very cool.

Years ago I had a few red beard/mustache hairs...but now that color's gone away, leaving only gray.

I've been trying to grow my hair longer. My parents keep insisting that I get "the split ends cut off". Whenever this happens, I end up with short hair. My face is far too fat for short hair. I need long hair so I can HIDE my face. The proscenium for the face, hair is. With short hair, you're prosceniumless! I don't know. Now I'm babbling. Babble babble babble. Too much sugar and white rice, I suspect.
