Last night was the first full night of successful (?) CPAP use. I can't honestly say I noticed much of a difference in the quality of my sleep ... if only because I kept waking up from having a hose strapped to my face. For some inexplicable reason, I was getting water collecting in my mask, which was not exactly comfortable either. I barely have the humidification on ... I might have to leave that part turned off.

My deepest bout of sleep came after the alarm went off and I took off the mask. Take that for whatever it's worth. [1]

[1] I always seem to do my best sleeping after the alarm has gone off. I sometimes think about setting the alarm for 2 a.m. just for that purpose.

That's called "rain out".

And it's because the hose cools off too much as the water vapor travels from the humidifier to your nose.

Wrap the hose in some fleece and that should solve the problem, keeping the hose warm.

And apparently sleep with the CPAP may seem less restful but it supposedly is more restful and we just don't know it.

Really! Good to know, thanks. :)

I wonder where one gets "hose fleece"...

Doesn't have to be hose fleece, you silly Gneech.

Just plain fleece from Jo-Ann fabric will do.

Because insulation meant for a CPAP hose is freaking expensive.

Hahahahaha!

If it weren't for the fact that mine actually has a chip in it tracking the number of times I've stopped breathing and the machine did its job, I'd be thinking it was something the doctors did to fat people for fun.

I didn't know about the fleece trick, I might try that. Not sure if it would work in Florida. In my case, I think it might be simply condensing out of the air and on the hoses and in the mask.

Might wanna as Tygermoon Foxx about it. I know she has a CPAP, so she could tell you all sorts of stuff about things. Worth a suggestion anyways.

My step-father uses one, says it was one of the best things he'd ever done. He did end up shaving his mustache...so if you have much facial hair you may consider trimming it back.

It takes time at first to get used to it. After a while you really won't notice when you are wearing it and notice it more when you are not. I found it was worth sticking out the adjustment period, especially when I forgot to take it on a trip and spent most of the weekend drained and unable to function at full capacity.

Water collecting in the mask is a common problem and you're right, it's no fun. Try thoroughly drying out the mask before bed and turning the humidifier off/to its lowest setting. Make sure water isn't collecting in the hoses either; that's where most of it comes from.

When you get used to it, you'll find your quality of sleep vastly improved. You won't believe you ever slept without it. I wouldn't ever sleep without mine (aside from the obvious, it's some of the best sleep I ever got).
